I thought to myself, 'wait a minute you still haven't told everyone the most basic of the basics', that being, how do you actually use ChatGPT. It's all pretty simple but to be honest I was a little nervous about trying it but in the end I said, 'why not' and signed up for it. Now, instead of me writing a how to guide on how to use ChatGPT I thought I'd let the expert tell you how. The expert being Chat GPT...
Here we go!
To use ChatGPT effectively, follow these steps:
Yes, yes, follow, follow.
1. Formulate your query: Determine the question or prompt you want to ask ChatGPT. Be clear and specific about what information or assistance you need.
2. Choose a platform: Decide on the platform or interface through which you want to interact with ChatGPT. It could be the OpenAI website, a third-party application, or an API integration.
I used the Open AI website openai.com. You just create free account and bam! You can start asking questions. Everything I've done so far with ChatGPT (just asking questions, which isn't much) seems to be free but there is an option for premium stuff and I'm sure if it was AI images you were after there might be a limit on how much you can use and the way you can use it unless you purchase stuff (who knows, maybe I might get around to checking out the art later on).
3. Craft your input: Enter your question or prompt in the provided text input area. Keep your query concise and in a conversational manner, as if you were interacting with a person.
Uhhhh... to be honest even when I'm interacting with people sometimes, I'm just not clear or concise... but it's the thought that counts!
4. Review and refine: Before submitting your query, take a moment to review it for clarity and make any necessary adjustments. ChatGPT performs best when it has clear instructions.
Pfft! Who has time to review questions (unless it's a bunch of stuff for school or work in which case, yes please review!)?
5. Submit your input: Once you're satisfied with your query, submit it to ChatGPT for processing. The model will generate a response based on the information it has learned during training.
It's actually pretty quick in generating a response. Definitely a lot faster than if a person had to think about the question and type out a response. It also seems to give quite long responses, but it's good that it's being through.
6. Evaluate the response: Read the response generated by ChatGPT. Assess whether it addresses your query accurately and provides useful information. Remember to critically evaluate the response and verify the information if necessary.
Yes! Once again ChatGPT is reminding you to evaluate its response. Remember kids, Google can be wrong, things on the internet are not always true and ChatGPT is not always right.
7. Iterate and ask follow-up questions: If needed, you can continue the conversation by asking follow-up questions based on the response you received. This can help clarify any ambiguities or delve deeper into the topic.
The good thing is you can ask infinite questions to ChatGPT and it will not get annoyed at you. The same cannot be said for repeatedly asking questions to your mother (really anyone would get annoyed at the number of questions ChatGPT is getting).
8. Cross-reference and fact-check: While ChatGPT can provide helpful information, it's essential to cross-reference and fact-check the responses it generates. Consult reliable sources or experts to validate the information if needed.
I feel like this is the same as number 6 but oh well, who's counting.
By following these steps, you can effectively utilize ChatGPT to assist you with various queries and engage in a productive conversation.
Hurray! ChatGPT has told us how to use ChatGPT. Now we shall all be experts at using ChatGPT... or will we?
